Manufacturing Process

Every IndoOils product follows the same path, from raw plant material to a sealed, labelled and tested pack. Some products are made in our own unit and others by selected partner distillers in the regions where each crop grows best. All of them pass the same IndoOils quality checks before they reach you.

In short

  • Raw material is checked before it is processed.
  • The extraction method is chosen to suit each plant: steam distillation, cold pressing, solvent extraction and more.
  • Every batch is tested before it is packed.
  • Oils are packed in clean, sealed 20 kg and 50 kg aluminium containers, each with its own batch number.
  • Your order ships with a CoA and full documents.

Step 1: Choosing the raw material and the partner

Good oil starts with the right plant, grown in the right place and harvested at the right time. We buy from regions known for each crop, such as mint from Uttar Pradesh, cardamom and spices from South India, and lemongrass from the north-east and south.

When a product is made by a partner distiller, we select that partner on quality, cleanliness, consistency and their ability to keep proper batch records. We test samples from a new partner before we buy from them, and keep checking every batch after that.

Step 2: Checking the raw material

Before processing, plant material is checked for the correct species, freshness, moisture and foreign matter. Each lot is recorded with its source and harvest period. This record is the start of the batch history behind every IndoOils container.

Step 3: Extraction

Different plants need different methods. We use the one that gives the truest oil for each material:

  • Steam distillation: the most common method for essential oils such as peppermint, eucalyptus, lemongrass and basil.
  • Hydro distillation: for delicate flowers and herbs, and the source of our hydrosols (floral waters).
  • Cold pressing: for citrus peels and seeds, and for carrier oils, where heat would harm the oil.
  • Solvent and CO₂ extraction: for oleoresins, absolutes and spice extracts, where the heavier flavour compounds matter.
  • Fractional distillation and crystallisation: to make peppermint products such as menthol crystals and dementholised mint oil.

Step 4: Filtering and settling

The fresh oil is separated from water, filtered and allowed to settle, so the final oil is clear and free from moisture and sediment.

Step 5: Testing before packing

Each batch is checked before release. Our team checks appearance, colour, odour and key physical values such as specific gravity, refractive index and optical rotation. Essential oils are also analysed by GC or GC-MS at independent laboratories, to confirm their natural make-up and catch any adulteration. Only batches that meet the specification are packed. See Quality Assurance & Lab.

Step 6: Packing and labelling

  • Oils are filled into clean, food-grade aluminium containers. Aluminium protects oil from light and air better than plastic.
  • Standard pack sizes are 20 kg and 50 kg. Other sizes are available for private-label and custom orders.
  • Every container is sealed and labelled with the product name, batch number, net weight, and manufacturing and best-before dates.
  • Flammable products are packed and labelled to transport rules.

Step 7: Documents and dispatch

Every order ships with a GST tax invoice and a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) for each batch. A Technical Data Sheet (TDS) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) are available on our Downloads page or on request. Export orders get a commercial invoice, packing list, and certificate of origin and phytosanitary certificate where needed.

Delivery times and terms are on our Shipping Policy page.
