Description
Lavender Essential Oil India is steam distilled from the fresh flowering tops of true lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), the same species grown in France and Bulgaria. Under the CSIR Aroma Mission, lavender has become an established crop in the hill districts of Jammu and Kashmir, where flowers are distilled close to the field within days of harvest.
The oil is clear and colourless to pale yellow, with a fresh, sweet floral and herbaceous scent. Its character comes from two constituents, linalyl acetate and linalool, which together usually make up more than half of the oil. Every lot is GC-MS tested against the ISO 3515 parameters, including low camphor and 1,8-cineole, which distinguish true lavender from lavandin and spike lavender.
IndoOils also supplies French and Bulgarian lavender, South African lavender, three lavender absolutes for fine fragrance, and ready-to-use lavender diffuser and massage oils. Our lavender oil buyer's guide on the IndoOils blog compares them.
Supplied in 20 kg and 50 kg aluminium packs, minimum order one pack, with CoA, SDS and allergen declaration. Request a sample for lab approval, or send a bulk inquiry for a quotation.
Key Benefits
True lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), not lavandin or spike lavender
Fresh, sweet floral-herbaceous profile that suits cosmetics, soaps, fragrance and home care
Same INCI name and CAS number as French and Bulgarian lavender, so it can be added as a second origin without changing your ingredient list
Indian origin, distilled close to the field in the Himalayan growing areas
Every lot GC-MS tested, with CoA, SDS, allergen declaration and IFRA documentation on request
Listed as generally recognised as safe for food use in the US (21 CFR 182.20); food-grade documentation on request
Industrial Applications
Personal care: soaps, shower gels, shampoos, conditioners, lotions, body oils, deodorants and baby care
Fine fragrance: fougère, cologne, aromatic and citrus accords
Home care: laundry detergents, fabric softeners, surface cleaners, candles, reed diffusers and room sprays
Aromatherapy and spa: diffuser blends, massage oils and bath products
Flavour: teas, chocolate, bakery and confectionery, at very low levels
How to Use
Cosmetics and soaps: always dilute, follow IFRA guidance for the product category, and declare EU fragrance allergens above the labelling thresholds
Add an antioxidant to finished cosmetic formulas: linalool and linalyl acetate oxidise in air into skin sensitisers
Fine fragrance: use as a top-to-heart note in fougère, cologne and aromatic accords; pair with a lavender absolute for depth
Home care: suitable for detergents, cleaners, candles and diffuser bases; check stability in each base before scale-up
Set your own acceptance specification from an approved sample and its CoA before ordering in bulk
Blends Well With
Bergamot, sweet orange, neroli, clary sage, rosemary, sweet marjoram, Roman chamomile, geranium, rose, ylang ylang, cedarwood, vetiver and sandalwood
Storage & Handling
Store in the original tightly closed aluminium container at 15–25 °C, in a dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. After opening, keep headspace to a minimum or blanket with nitrogen, as air exposure oxidises linalool and linalyl acetate. Shelf life 36 months unopened; use opened packs within 12 months.
Safety Information
For manufacturing and professional formulation use only. Do not apply undiluted to the skin, and avoid contact with eyes. May cause an allergic skin reaction, especially once oxidised. Contains naturally occurring linalool, limonene and geraniol, which are listed fragrance allergens in the EU. Keep out of reach of children. Combustible: keep away from heat, sparks and open flame. See the Safety Data Sheet supplied with each lot for full hazard classification and handling.
